Vail Resorts officials talk to commissioners
Present: Peter Runyon, Jon Stavney, Sara Fisher.
Who they talked to: Vail Resorts executives Chris Jarnot and John Garnsey.
What they talked about: During about an hour at the table, the group talked about the resort company’s future plans and how that might affect county taxpayers. One of the big items was the coming 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships.
Given the county’s budget crunch, which is expected to last for several years, Fisher asked the resort company representatives to speak up as soon as possible about what it will need from the county – security, transportation and so on – for the event.
Resort company officials also talked about possible changes at the day parking lots for Beaver Creek. The news is there is no news, Garnsey said.
“We like it the way it is right now,” he said.
The resort company also stopped subsidizing the Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis to the Eagle County Regional Airport for the coming ski season. Jarnot noted that there are already 25 flights between Minneapolis and Denver every day, and that tourists are probably better off using that service. But, Jarnot added, Delta is looking into bringing a flight on Saturdays into Eagle this season.
