Vail Resorts stock hitsfour-year high

AVON – Vail Resorts’ stock price bobbed to a four-year high this week – $24 per share and was at $23.52 at market close Thursday. That’s nearly $10 a share more than it was priced a year ago.Analysts attribute the investor confidence in the company to a variety of factors, including a return of air travelers, good snow at the company’s five ski resorts, the possible sale of some of the company’s hotel properties, huge interest in the new real estate associated with the Vail renovation, and an exchange rate in Europe that favors international tourism.Since initial public offering at $22 a share in 1997, the stock hit a high of $32 in 1998 and a low, $10.87, after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The company also downsized and cut nearly $45 million in expenses in the last three years and has refinanced long-term debt.Staff Writer Cliff Thompson can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 450, or, Colorado
