Vail sales tax collections drop is in line with neighboring towns

Here’s a look at year-to-date sales tax collections for area towns, and how they compare to the same period in 2008. All are down by double-digit percentages through March, the last month for which figures are available.

Aspen: down 20.59 percent.

Breckenridge: down 17.09 percent.

Steamboat Springs: down 18.46 percent.

Vail: down 18.24 percent.

Glenwood Springs: down 16.02 percent.

Snowmass: down 17.89 percent.

Big snow expected to dump on Vail Valley through the weekend

Snow usually comes and goes in this part of the state. A forecasted storm is expected to stick around for a while. Forecasters are calling for snow to persist throughout the weekend in the high country, with a prospect of a couple of feet of powder by the time the storm starts to diminish on Monday.
