Vail sales tax collections grow in July
The heart of summer was a good one for most Vail merchants, at least compared to last year.
Vail’s sales tax collections in July – the most recent month for which data is available – were up 6.5 percent over 2009. The big winners were lodges, where collections were up more than 23 percent. The “food and beverage” category was also from last year, posting a 12.5 percent increase. Retail collections were down slightly, by 2.7 percent.
While Lionshead posted the biggest percentage jump in July – 13.9 percent – Vail Village led the way in terms of money collected, with more than $525,000 going into town coffers, more than double the collections from Lionshead.
Overall, tax collections grew by about $70,000 from July of last year, to $1.194 million.
