Vail sales tax drops in June

The town of Vail Wednesday released sales tax information for June.

Broken down by sector, retail dropped 14.5 percent, lodging decreased 26.1 percent, food and beverage decreased 9.8 percent and utilities/other (which is mainly utilities but also includes taxable services and rentals decreased 39.3 percent.
Looking through the town’s categories of retail sales for June, only gallery sales were up from last year, not quite doubling from just less than $4,000 in sale tax to just more than $7,500.
The hardest-hit sales tax sector was lodging tax collections in Cascade Village, Sandstone, West Vail and East Vail, which was down more than 33 percent from last year.
Year-to-date collections through June are down 15.4 percent overall, with retail
decreasing 10.2 percent, lodging decreasing 22.7 percent, food and beverage down 9.5 percent and utilities off 15.7 percent.
