VAIL, Colorado –The band Evol Intent will not perform at the Sandbar in West Vail Thursday night. The premiere of the ski/snowbard film “Re:Session,” followed by the band Salem, will take place Friday evening as planned.

Concert promoter Crawford Byers said Thursday night’s show was cancelled out of “respect for the situation,” referring to the shooting that took place at the Sandbar on Saturday night.

“With a little more research into Evol Intent, they’re real nice guys, but their music, this act that they do, there’s a lot of gunshots and stuff in the music,” said Crawford Byers, the concert promoter who booked the show.

The band’s tour manager, Matt Rosenzweig, said the band members heard the news about the shooting on Tuesday.

“We were all blown away,” he said. “We know it’s a small town and a delicate situation, and we want to be respectful of the community. We went back and forth on if we should play the show because of what happened and because of the (band’s) name and the style of music, which is pretty dark and hard.”

Byers, Rosenzweig and the band members made the decision to cancel the show after speaking late Tuesday evening.

“Everyone put their heads together and decided this might not be the right show to do as the first show back after Sandbar’s incident,” Byers said. “We decided to postpone the show until later in the winter.”

The Sandbar will host the premiere of “Re:Session,” the latest film from Teton Gravity Research, on Friday night at 8 p.m.

“Follow the crew as they score in one of Alagna, Italy’s deepest seasons on record,” the movie’s press release said. “Check out forbidden powder in Poland, massive wedges in Colorado, new gap jumps in Utah, and seven weeks of epic riding conditions in Alaska. Re: Session brings the most talented athletes in the sport together into one must-see film.”

Salem, a Boulder-based band that performs funk, jazz and hip hop, was featured in the film and will perform live after the film, beginning at 10 p.m.

The show is $5. Call the Sandbar at 970-476-4314 for more information.
