Vail says ‘hat’s off’ to top volunteers

VAIL, Colorado -The Vail Valley Medical Center Volunteer Corps will honor two local ladies at its annual Fashion Show and Luncheon on Wednesday at the Vail Marriott. The “Hats Off To You” Award is given annually to two women who have demonstrated charitable leadership in their endeavors that make a positive impact in our community and beyond. The winners are Brenda Himelfarb and Laura Garbe.Himelfarb is a Vail resident and is married to Alan Himelfarb. She is the mother of three – Mark, Nathan and Kevin – and is the grandmother of six. She co-founded the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group with Patti Weinstein 16 years ago. She has given unselfishly of her time and energy to support Breast Cancer awareness. She is president of the group’s board and helps to organize its annual Celebration of Life luncheon.Garbe is a longtime Vail Valley Medical Center volunteer and gift shop manager and buyer. Garbe and her husband, Warren, are Vail residents and have a son who lives in Seattle. Garbe has also served many years on the board of directors for the volunteer organization. Each year the medical center gift shop plays an important role in contributing to the donations made by the Volunteer Corps.
