Vail says new lead paint rules become effective Thursday

VAIL – The town of Vail Community Development Department is reminding contractors and property owners that beginning April 1 new federal regulations will go into effect regarding the handling of lead-based paint.
Any remodel or construction activity that disturbs six square feet or more of interior paint or 20 square feet or more of exterior paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978 is subject to the new regulations, which are enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
