VAIL – The town of Vail is seeking community members to fill four vacancies on the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council, four vacancies on the Commission on Special Events and one vacancy on the Local Licensing Authority (the liquor board). Applications for all positions are due to the town by 5 p.m., Dec. 14.The Vail Town Council will interviews applicants on Dec. 20.The mission of the 11-member marketing council is to strengthen the area economy by attracting visitors to Vail during the summer and off-seasons. The council meets on the third Thursday of every month at 7:30 a.m. In addition to the regular meeting, members must attend one additional meeting per month and participate on a working committee. All four vacant positions are for two-year terms, expiring December 2007.To qualify, applicants must own property in Vail. Corporations or entities that own property in Vail may nominate an employee for the council. The positions are voluntary, but, the town gives each member a parking pass.The special events committee is a seven-member board whose mission is to organize street entertainment and special events in Vail such as Spring Back to Vail. The commission meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers. Duties of the commission include hiring, funding special events in Vail, evaluating event applications from event planners and coordinating the community calendar for special events.The Town Council will appoint four board members who will serve two-year terms, beginning in January. To qualify, applicants must be a resident, property or business owner or employee in Vail. Each member get a parking pass.Duties of the five-member liquor board include reviewing Vail liquor license applications. Applicants must be citizens of the United States, registered to vote in Vail, have lived in Vail for at least two years and have no direct financial interest in any license to sell alcoholic beverages.The liquor board meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the Vail Municipal Building. The term of appointment is from Jan. 1 until June 1, 2007. Members also get a parking pass.
