Vail seeks vacant board positions

VAIL — The town of Vail is seeking community members to fill vacancies on two resident boards. Openings exist on the Vail Commission on Special Events and the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council.

Applications for the special events board vacancies are due to the town by 5 p.m. on Nov. 21. Applications for the marketing district board vacancies are due to the town by 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. The Vail Town Council will conduct interviews for the special events board seats during its work session Dec. 2. Interviews for the marketing district board will be conducted during the work session Dec. 16. Board appointments will follow at the Vail Town Council evening meetings. Three vacancies exist on the Commission on Special Events. Applicants must be a resident, property owner, business owner or employee within the town of Vail. The terms of the four members shall be for two years and end on Dec. 31, 2016. Duties of the seven-member committee include creating, funding and seeking special events for the town of Vail; evaluating event applications and event success; submitting an annual budget for operations and events; coordinating the community calendar for special events; evaluating and executing contracts for special events; and all other functions as directed by the Town Council. The committee typically meets in the morning on the first Wednesday of each month in the Vail Town Council chambers.



Four vacancies exist on the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council. The terms of the four members shall be for two years, from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2017. The fourth position vacancy will include an appointment of a Vail Resorts representative to serve on the district’s advisory council. To qualify, applicants must be an owner of real property or taxable personal property in Vail. Corporations or entities that own property within the town of Vail may forward a designee to be considered for the council. The mission of the nine-member council is to market and promote Vail to overnight guests primarily during May through October, creating economic vitality by increasing both the visitor base and sales tax revenues. Meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
