Vail Ski Museum hosts ski boot display

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Denny Hanson’s new Apex ski boot will be on display at the “Then and Now” Hanson display and demo opportunity at Slifer Plaza, across from the Colorado Ski Museum, Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Apex Boot is a hi-mod carbon fiber chassis that contains an inner-boot with a heat-moldable lining that the wearer can remove from the shell and use for walking.

Hanson was director of research and development at Lange Boots from 1968-1969, where he developed and improved boots for more than 300 racers on national teams worldwide. Hanson customized Billy Kidd’s boots in which he skied to a gold medal victory in the 1970 World Championships, now on display at the Ski Museum.

Hanson, with his brother, Chris, later founded Hanson Ski Boots, which put the first rear-entry boot into production. Hanson ski boots were in production under the direction of the Hanson brothers until 1984, when they sold Hanson to a Japanese distributor.
