VAIL, Colorado –The clouds parted on Friday, the eve of the Fourth of July festivities, for a splendid affair at the Claggett/Rey Gallery in Vail, Colorado.

The gallery has been representing the finest in traditional American art, paintings and sculpture for the past 20 years. The artists represented are each unique and at the top of their field, developed through many years of producing the highest quality and their creative truth.

Claggett/Rey’s artists have received numerous awards and are recognized throughout today’s art world.

Many of their works are featured in various museum collections across the United States. Because the artists are well established and enjoy solid reputations for quality images, their art has consistent value and enhances the worth and aesthetic appeal of the environments in which they are placed.

One such artist is master watercolor painter William Matthews, whose work includes cowboy portraits and compositions and depictions of desert landscapes with mountain backdrops and old ranch outbuildings.

Another favorite artist of the evening was Josh Elliot, whose snowy landscape came to life under the art light. Elliot was born in Great Falls, Mont., where his father, a wildlife painter, introduced him to painting early in life. Elliot’s other fine work can be viewed at, though I highly recommend seeing it in person at 100 E Meadow Drive, home of the gallery.

The Claggett/Rey Gallery owners, Ray and Sally Duncan and Bill and Maggie Rey, were the quintessential hosts looking as glamorous as ever.

Delicious appetizers were delicately prepared by Eric Berg, owner of Vail Catering Concepts, in an open-air outdoor kitchen. It was a lovely event with gorgeous local color, flavor, style, and, of course, art.
