Vail special events board seeks funding requests
VAIL – The town of Vail’s Commission on Special Events is currently accepting funding requests from special event producers for 2005 events. The RFP, accompanying information and guidelines, are available on-line at http://www.vailgov.com (click on “Doing Business,” then “Special Events”); at the Municipal Building, 75 South Frontage Road; or by calling 376-2394. The commission receives its funds from the Vail Town Council, and is charged with allocating these funds to promote an atmosphere of vitality and sense of community for Vail’s guests and residents. Funding amounts will be determined based on an event’s potential to increase sales tax and lodging tax returns; increase a visitor’s intent to return; how the targeted demographic matches that of the Vail Local Marketing District; how it will increase a sense of community in Vail; how sponsorships and media exposure will complement the commission’s funding; and if the timing of the event will promote economic vitality in the community by strengthening the shoulder seasons. Additionally, the commission is actively seeking proposals for a new event to be held over the third weekend in August.Events that received funding from the commission in 2004 include: American Ski Classic, The Session, Spring Back to Vail, TEVA Mountain Games, King of the Mountain volleyball tournament, Big Wheel, Chili and Brews Fest, summer-long street entertainment, Vail Lacrosse shoot-out, Vail America Days, Vail Arts Festival, Got Milk? 3 X 3 Soccer Tournament, Vail Film Festival, Oktoberfest in Vail Village and Lionshead, holidays in Vail, Vail Arts and Wine Faire, Jazz at the Market, Taste of Vail, Bridge Street Jam, Vail Family Carnival, Western Regional Softball Championships, “Y04” Drug and Alcohol Free New Year’s Eve Celebration and Vail Classic Labor Day Bike Ride.Event funding applications are due by 5 p.m., Oct. 8 and should be submitted to: Town of Vail/Commission on Special Events, 75 S.
