Vail sponsors tree planting, giveaway

VAIL – Some 175 spruce trees will be planted in Vail this week as part of a reforestation and beautification program.

On Wednesday, about 75 students from Red Sandstone Elementary School will help plant between 50 and 75 saplings on the upper bench of Donovan Park and the Vail Golf Course. On Thursday, Vail residents can be pick up a free one-gallon, 14-inch spruce tree to be planted within the town. The give-away will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Town of Vail Community Department parking lot while supplies last.

The purpose of the program is to replant trees killed by pine beetles.
