VAIL, Colorado “-A little bit cowboy, a little bit biker chic, the Western trend that’s always current in Vail, Colorado has arrived updated and edgy in NYC.

This is good news for those of you who are ever smartly shopping your closets this season. Not to mention, East Coasters dressed to ride ‘cross country into the Wild West provide some much needed (comic) relief. On a personal note, this is good news for me too; I feel right at home as a cowgirl in the city.

Here are 10 ways to rock the modern Western look:

Denim

Don your denim with a vest, blue jeans, cut-offs, a jean skirt or a button-down in baby blue, black, and stonewashed blue or gray, and add simple white or black basics and lots of silver bangles.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

Boots

All the cool kids are wearing slouchy ankle boots with Western details. They look great with skinny jeans, dresses and skirts.

Fringe

It’s not just my favorite TV show. An accessory with benefits, bags, shoes, vests and blazers are all bedecked.

Embroidery

Sport a fem-embroidered tunic with hot pants or a thread-decorated dress and pair with your slouchy ankle boots. I’ve even spied embroidered sandals and totes.

Cuffs and bracelets

Mix, match and pile them on in silver, turquoise, aluminum studded and leather ” all at once.

Rhinestones

This time around think black and luminous, not pink and sparkly. (I’m one step away from bedazzling my Minnetonka black suede booties from seasons ago. Saving money and the environment!)

Stetson

For day or night, casual or chic, a leather cowboy hat brings out the “best Western” in you.

Suede

It’ll keep you warm long after the sun goes down. Skirts, pants shoes and bags, the possibilities are endless. For formal events, a suede jacket and jeans paired with your favorite silver adornments is always chic.

Belt

Wear it big with rhinestones or skinny with a silver buckle to slightly accentuate your active physique with your denim or embroidered ensemble.

Handbags

The desired accouterment is suede with fringe and studded detailing. From clutches to handbags to totes, any size will do.
