Daily staff reportnewsroom@vaildaily.comVAIL CO, Colorado

Join the Vail Symposium Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera for a Night in New Zealand, a fundraiser to benefit the Symposium and help the nonprofit organization continue its mission of providing affordable, thought-provoking programs to the community. Enjoy food and wine from one of the most beautiful and remote countries in the world, while supporting the second-oldest nonprofit in Vail. The evening will feature New Zealand-themed hors d’oeuvres, newly introduced wines by Kalex Winery, a kiwi martini bar and a silent auction. New Zealand wine expert James Reid will be speaking about the variety of wines produced in New Zealand. Kalex Wines come from the snow-capped mountains of New Zealand’s Central Otago, a mountainous high altitude area on the South Island of New Zealand where the grapes both survive and thrive in the region’s cold winters, hot dry summers and huge night to day temperature range. It is recognized as the southernmost wine growing district in the world. The winery’s Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris will be served at the event.New Zealand’s 42 Below Vodka’s Kiwifruit Vodka is the inspiration behind the evening’s martini bar. The 42nd parallel runs through the middle of New Zealand, just north of Wellington, exactly where 42 Below Vodka is produced. The water used to make the vodka comes from under an extinct volcano and gets the highest purity rating available. 42 Below Vodka is known for its creative flavors such as Feijoa, Manuka honey and Passionfruit.Chef Ashton Fichtl will present an hors d’oeuvres menu inspired by various New Zealand products and flavors such as New Zealand Green Lip Mussels, kiwi fruit and goat cheese. During the silent auction, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of prizes – from a six-pack of Kalex Wine to a Rancho Las Palmas dinner and golf package to a New York City vacation package. All proceeds benefit the Vail Symposium. Event tickets are $55 per person. RSVP at 970-476-0954 or http://www.vailsymposium.org.
