Vail to choose employee housing builders from six finalists
VAIL, Colorado The town of Vail has chosen six companies as finalists to build an affordable housing duplex in West Vail. The finalists were chosen by the Vail Local Housing Authority and town staff out of 14 proposals. The finalists are as follows (in alphabetical order): Evans Chaffee Construction Group and RKD Architects George Shaeffer Construction and Snowdon & Hopkins Architects Gregg & Co. Builders and OBryan Partnership, Inc. J.L. Viele Construction and Vail Architecture Group R.A. Nelson and GPSL Architects Vail Customer Builders and Martin Manley Architects The town had asked for proposals earlier this spring for someone to build a duplex on town-owned property at 2657 Arosa Drive. The property was acquired by the town in 1995 as part of a land exchange with the U.S. Forest Service. At the time, an A-frame residence, built in 1972, was located on the property and was used as rental housing by the town until it was torn down in 2000. The six finalists are being interviewed by the Vail Local Housing Authority, who will make recommendations to the town council at its June 16 meeting. All 14 proposals are available for inspection in the Community Development Department office during normal business hours. The town of Vail will conduct a lottery to select the purchasers for the duplex homes. The plans call for each half of the duplex to be a three-bedroom, two-bath unit with a two-car garage. The town plans for the homes to be affordable not only to purchase, but to operate and maintain over time. For more information, contact Nina Timm, the towns housing coordinator, at 479-2144.
