Vail tree lighting begins holiday celebration

Vail’s holiday festivities officially begin Friday with the first tree lighting of the season at Checkpoint Charlie in Vail Village at 6 p.m.Long-time local and Vail historian Frank Doll will preside over the ceremony and flip the switch to illuminate the holiday tree.The evening will feature live entertainment by the Mountain Carolers, a local women’s choir that will perform traditional holiday tunes. The man of the season, Santa Claus, will make an appearance and hand out candy to kids throughout Vail Village.This Friday’s tree-lighting festivities kick off the series of tree-lighting ceremonies taking place throughout the month of December-all leading up to the 30th Annual President Ford Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.On Dec. 5, the second tree-lighting ceremony will take place at the Sundial Plaza in LionsHead Village. The third tree-lighting of the series will be held Dec. 12 at Crossroads Center in Vail Village.All tree lightings will be presented by the Vail Valley Chamber & Tourism Bureau and the Vail Valley Jet Center.
