What goods or services do you provide? Buick Energy Solutions is a full service residential energy inspection and improvement company. Using diagnostic tools, we evaluate how your home uses and wastes energy and pinpoint how it can be improved.

Our primary focus is on the thermal envelope, searching for air leaks and ineffective insulation. We also inspect the energy providers in your home, including the furnace, boiler, water heater and other appliances. Finally, we work with homeowners to implement the solutions and improvements which meet their needs and budget. Our goal is to increase the comfort of your home while lowering your utility bills and energy usage.

What’s new and exciting at your place? The entire industry of home energy inspections and improvements is new and exciting. Most people do not give much thought to how their home is performing. We believe homes can perform better and cost less. We also stay up-to-date on the constantly changing government and utility rebates to save the customer more money.

What strategy to you use to differentiate your business from your competitors? Buick Energy Solutions focuses on simple, cost-effective items that can make the biggest difference in your energy use. There is no reason to put expensive solar panels or a high-efficiency boiler in your house if you don’t first fix the holes in your thermal envelope and stop heating the outside.

What philosophy do you follow with your customers? Every home is different and every homeowner has unique goals and budgets. We do not provide one-size-fits-all solutions. Each customer gets a prioritized report detailing improvements, from simple to more complex upgrades. We also implement solutions the customer chooses, providing one point of contact for upgrades.

Tell us a little about your background, education, and experience: I have been an over-educated (Masters in Business Administration) general contractor in Eagle County for the past 15 years, building homes from Cotton Ranch to Bachelor Gulch. As a builder and homeowner, I have always been interested in how homes can perform better and what construction techniques and materials can be used.

Our climate is severe and our houses are expensive, but we don’t need to live in an uncomfortable home or pay so much to the utility companies. Buick Energy Solutions is certified by the Residential Energy Services Network, the Building Performance Institute, and is a member of the town of Vail Sustainability Committee, and the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability.

What is the most humorous thing that has happened to your business? After performing upgrades on a house in Singletree, the client informed me her daughter had to open the window in what was a cold bedroom because it was too warm. I suggested they may just want to lower the thermostat.
