What goods or services do you provide? I am a travel agent specializing in Australia, New Zealand and Africa. I customize trips based on clients’ interests, desires, travel styles and budgets.

What’s new or exciting at your place? The fun thing about travel is there is always some new and exciting.There are some amazing deals to be had to all these places.

Because I am a specialist, I get constant updates on any deals that can be had, airfare giveaways (that actually happens quite a bit) and promotions that may be happening. The big buzz right now is that Oprah just got back from Australia and absolutely loved her time there. Because of this there are some wonderful deals and packages to Australia (and even New Zealand).

One new thing that is neither fun or exciting, but very important, is a way for people to be able to help the flood victims in Queensland, Australia. What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? I decided quite a few years ago that you can’t be all things to all people, and that specialization was the key to being competitive. So, instead of knowing a little about a lot of places, I know a lot about Australia, New Zealand and Africa. I have travelled in each extensively, completed specialization courses, do webinars consistently and attend conferences.

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? I will devote 100 percent of my time and energy to making a client’s trip the best it can be. I am extremely dedicated, very detailed and conscientous and always have my clients’ best interests at heart. I love booking these countries and I think that shows.

Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: I am an Aussie and I grew up in the Outback of Australia on a sheep station(ranch). I have lived in the valley since the late ’70’s, arriving here by way of the usual Overland Trek through southeast Asia and Europe that a lot of young Aussies did back then.

I had planned to go back and resume my teaching career but the ski bum life was too much fun. Marriage and a child later I am now a dual citizen! I got into the travel industry as a way to stay connected to Australia.

What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? I had a client in the early years who was irate at me because “I cannot believe you did not tell me the Great Barrier Reef was under water!” They asked for a refund back on their Great Barrier Reef Cruise. If there is a doubt, I now do mention that the reef is indeed under water!
