Business name: High Country Hard Water.
Date Opened: December.
Owner: Steve Visosky.
What goods or services do you provide? High Country Hard Water is a fully guided ice fishing service that offers an introduction into the exciting sport of ice fishing in Colorado’s high country. Offering services at Sylvan Lake State Park and Williams Fork Reservoir, we specialize in working with children and families with an emphasis on safety and fun. We supply all the necessary equipment and knowledge needed to create an enjoyable winter adventure on the ice.
What’s new or exciting at your place? We recently obtained a special use permit at Sylvan Lake State Park to offer ice fishing at Sylvan Lake, located 15 miles south of Eagle. The lake offers excellent ice fishing for rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout and cutthroat trout. With its abundance of trout and beautiful mountain setting, it is a perfect location to experience your first day of ice fishing.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? High Country Hard Water specializes in ice fishing and that’s all we do. We take great pride in understanding what is happening to the ice at our local fishing spots and stress the importance of safety on the ice. We supply a fishing hut, heater, fresh, locally made lunches and hot drinks to ensure that our clients are comfortable on the lake. We also supply sonar units to locate fish and all the ice fishing equipment needed to catch fish in the winter.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with customers? What can your customers expect from you? Customers can expect to have a local, knowledgeable guide create a fun, safe and memorable winter experience. High Country Hard Water provides a family-friendly adventure when you are looking to experience more of what Colorado’s high country has to offer.
Tell us a little bit about your background: As the owner and fishing guide, I have been ice fishing Eagle County’s high country lakes for more than 15 years. I am a registered Colorado Outfitter — No. 2907 — and am currently CPR and first aid certified. I was a children’s ski school instructor at Beaver Creek and know how to create fun winter experiences for children of all ages. I have ice fished all over the country and can share an abundance of ice fishing knowledge and experience.
What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since it opened? I think I’ll just share a poem from one of the kids I fish with, Matas Katieb:
I — Ice fish at Rifle Gap.
C— Catch perch fish.
E — Early in the morning.
F — Fry fish.
I — Ice fishing is fun.
S — Sometimes I catch fish.
H — Hook fish by yourself.
I — In winter the tent makes me warm.
N — No fish, no food.
G — Go ice fishing!
