Being a board member of the Eagle Valley Chamber at the time, Peter questioned the representation Gypsum business community was receiving. After several meetings and discussions, that founding group determined that the local business community was looking for a Gypsum Chamber, focused on promoting Gypsum businesses and the community. A steering committee was formed and the Gypsum Chamber was formed and incorporated in October of last year. What philosophy do you follow? Our mission is to promote businesses and services in Gypsum and the surrounding areas, provide networking and promotional opportunities to our members and encourage involvement in our community. Promoting business in Gypsum is an important goal to us. Gypsum has more than 300 working businesses, from office space and retail stores to light industrial and manufacturing businesses. The Airport Gateway Center is a 234-acre park with two miles of U.S. Highway 6 frontage, and is home to Costco, Heidi’s, the New Art Center, Caddis Corner, The Fix, The Debt Doctor, Colorado Mountain News Media, Ferguson Enterprises, Gateway Secure Storage, and Integra Auto, just to name a few. There is also the Valley Airpark, an additional 90 acres adjacent to the Eagle County Regional Airport, and Spring Creek Industrial Park with 130 acres, home to Alpine Party Rentals, The Learning Camp, Store-n-Lock Self Storage, Grand Junction Pipe and Mountain Beverage. The epicenter of local shopping in Gypsum is Columbine Market, in Gypsum Creek Center, which is surrounded by US Bank, Mac’s Liquor, Active Communications, Copy Plus, Stop n’ Save and Alpine Bank. Across Highway 6 in the Red Table Commercial Center area are Gypsum Animal Hospital, Big Dog Truck and Car Wash, Village Church, Slaughter Realty and Dr. Steve Oakson, DDS. Pastimes, Jim Kinser Insurance and The Old Gypsum Printer share the old downtown area and The Rittenhouse Restaurant and Inn and Habitat Home Outlet, Eagle Valley Rod & Gun Club provides shopping, entertainment and dining around the Interstate 70 interchange.Gypsum is also home to dozens of businesses without storefronts, including Gypsum Pilates, Redtail Contracting, Steve’s Towing & BBQ, Office Genie, Lopez Consulting, 1 Stop Property Shop, Hard Core Printing, and Aqualogic. The town of Gypsum is supportive of business, and the Gypsum community is fortunate to have local government that actively supports business opportunities. Gypsum has a great deal to offer but it doesn’t get a lot of attention. The Gypsum Chamber is going to be focused on putting a big spotlight on our town. It is also about getting businesses familiar with each other’s goods and services. According to a 2008 survey conducted by the town, one of the main reasons people have their business in Gypsum is because they want to work close to home. What’s new or exciting at your place? There is a lot of excitement over the creation of the Gypsum Chamber. We have 58 founding members and our January mixer at the Gypsum Animal Hospital was attended by more than 60 people. The evening was filled with optimism for our community and discussions of cooperation and mutual support. Support for the Gypsum Chamber also comes from regional businesses including SilverLeaf Suites, Treehouse Creations, Colorado Basement Systems, Wells Fargo Bank, Western Eagle County Ambulance District, Harmony Financial, Archibeque Land Consulting, Vail Mountain Realty, Alpine Self Storage, Colorado Mountain College, Heritage Title, KZYR 97.7, The Valley 104.7, The Vail Mountaineer, and NRC Broadcasting all support and participate in the Gypsum Chamber.
