Date opened: Thrivent began back in 2002 with the merger or our two predecessor companies, Aid Association for Lutherans and Lutheran Brotherhood, which both began in the early 1900’s. I began working with them this past November after 12 years with a Wall Street firm.

What goods or services do you provide? Thrivent Fianancial is a Fortune 500 company that offers full financial planning services including investments, insurance, estate/legacy planning and charitable giving.
What’s new or exciting at your place? As a not-for-profit fraternal organization, we give back to the community. For example, we gave $1,000 in food to the Salvation Army this past December. I was excited to join Thrivent because they are a member-owned orgaization and the company makes decisions for the benefit of its members and their communities, not stockholdders. Thrivent has maintained its strong financial rating and has not taken any federal bailout money.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? I use an advisory process to guide my clients and help them make financial decisions based on their values, goals and personal situations. We take a hollistic approch to looking at our clients financial situtations. We want to understand what our clients’ values and goals are before we make any recommendations. –
Using this approach, in combination with the products and services that Thrivent offers, we can help the majority of our clients meet their short term and long term financial goals.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you? My customers can expect to see specific recommendations that are based on their values and goals. They also can expect to meet face-to-face throughout our relationship to adjust their plan as their needs and goals change. I believe in having a consistent, advice-based relationship rather than just a transactional relationship.
Tell us a little about your background, education and experience: I have been a financial planner since 1998 here in the Vail Valley. In addition, I have a bachelor’s degree in Finance, an MBA and am also a Certified Financial Planner.
What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened? Everyone asks if I know Garrison Keillor.
