Vail Valley Cares hosts 1-day Pop-Up Dress Sale to help students, charities
EAGLE — On Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Vail Valley Cares hosts a unique dress sale in Gypsum. The event, called the “Pop-Up Dress Sale,” features gently used dresses for purchase by high school students preparing for upcoming dances. This one-day event is the work of the staff at Vail Valley Cares, and the dresses are donated dazzlers from high school students and ladies in the community. All dresses are priced at $40 for this one-day sale, and dress donations are still needed.
Because this is a valley-wide event, Pop-Up Dress Sale volunteers plan to offer a large inventory with a variety of sizes and styles of dresses and need donations immediately. A Vail Valley Cares volunteer will pick up clean dresses, in good, wearable condition, at each high school on a specified day during the week prior to the event. how to Donate dresses
High school students (or parents) who donate a dress or dresses receive a $40 credit to use for the purchase of a dress during the one-day Pop-Up Dress Sale. Vail Valley Cares plans to offer another Pop-Up Dress Sale in the spring, during prom season, and credits may also be used during that sale. Those who donate a dress or dresses also will receive a donation receipt. Dresses must be donated by Sept. 21.

The Pop-Up Dress Sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 22. The shop is located at 150 Cooley Mesa Road, next to Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli in Gypsum (near Costco); the space was donated by the owner, who wanted to help with the event. Proceeds from the Pop-Up Dress Sale benefit the Vail Valley Cares grant program.
During the past 13 years, Vail Valley Cares has awarded more than $2.4 million in grants to local nonprofit help organizations. The infusion is key for many charities as they strive to help others in the local community to thrive.
“Being around high school students, both at church and at Vail Christian High School where my husband teaches, it became apparent that many girls have dresses they will probably not wear more than once or twice,” said Beaudine. “I know the girls — and their parents — had to drive four hours and spend hard-earned money to purchase them and realized it would be great if they could repurpose those dresses. Vail Valley Cares has made that idea a reality.”
Vail Valley Cares is a local ecumenical nonprofit Christian help organization formed in 1994 by local churches to assist people in the Eagle River Valley community. It is dedicated to sharing the love of God by meeting people’s needs, and the organization works with and compliments the efforts of other benevolent organizations in the valley. The organization practices charitable ecology — improving the environment while helping others. Recognitions in 2010 include the Vail Daily “Best Charity” award and the Vail Valley Partnership “Citizen of the Year” award.
