Caramie SchnellVail CO, Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY Just because May is in the rearview mirror and October isnt yet upon us doesnt mean you cant score a cheap bite for dinner. And theres no need to scour the advertisements because weve done the leg (or at least phone) work for you. For each day of the week, here are two of the best food (and a few drink) specials around the valley. MONDAY: ■ Monday is half-price pizza night at Paddys (9496093) in Eagle-Vail. ■ Grouse on the Green (926-5788) in Cordillera is moving its taco special to Mondays. Though Taco Monday doesnt have quite the same ring, the prices will remain the same $3 for catfish tacos and $5 for halibut. Choose either blackened or steamed, and order a $5 margarita to drink deckside. TUESDAY: ■ Though Agaves (748-8666) tacos arent a buck anymore on Tuesdays, theyre still only $1.50 each. Choose chicken or beef, and spring for a side of house-made guacomole if youre feeling spendy. ■ On Tuesdays and Sundays, kids eat free (a bowl of pasta) at La Scala (337-7733) in Eagle. WEDNESDAY: ■ Mussel Madness is at Frites (926-2151) in Edwards. The skillet roasted mussels are $5, and their other three varieties run $6.95. Glasses of wine will set you back $5, and beers are, $2.50. ■ Dish (926-3433) restaurant in Edwards offers a $25 six-course tasting menu from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday evenings. Though the menu will change nightly based on chef-owner Jenna Johansen is whims, an example menu might start with the original a cube of manchego cheese wrapped with shaved serrano ham and served with a splash of sherry continue with a soup, followed by bacon- wrapped grilled dates with gorgonzola cream sauce, ricotta- stuffed zucchini flowers, rock fish, buffalo bratwurst and finish with dessert, Johansen said. THURSDAY: ■ Mangos (827-5238) in Red Cliff is well known for its fish tacos and ice-cold margaritas. All day on Thursdays, score the tacos for $2 and the margaritas for $3. ■ Blue Tiger (476-1115) in West Vail hosts locals nights on Thursdays. From 9 p.m. to midnight selected tapas are half price, and slurp a $5 martini, a $2 draft or a $5 glass of wine. FRIDAY: ■ The Red Lion ( 476- 7676) in Vail Village hawks its fish tacos along with a 20- ounce Coors Light every day of the week for $ 6.95. Not particularly hungry? Try the current $ 5 drink special, called the John Daily. The drink, named after the vice- ridden golfer, is a riledup Arnold Palmer Stoli peach vodka, iced tea and lemonade. ■ Appy Hour at Terra Bistro (476-6836) in Vail has garnered a steady following since its inception two years ago. From 5 to 6 p.m., appetizers are half price (most end up costing between $5 and $7), and drink specials run between $3 and $6.50. Try the tuna tartare Napoleon with avocado, passion fruit and wasabi or the sweet ginger carmelized shrimp soft tacos in shrimp and scallion pancakes. SATURDAY: ■ ZaccaZa ( 748- 4848) in Avon offers a smoking happy hour deal every afternoon of the week from 2 to 5 p. m. A 12-inch margarita pizza and a pint of Bud or Bud Light is $ 7.95. Not feeling up for a pizza pie? The Chicago- style Vienna all beef hot dog, served with mustard, relish, onion, tomatoes, peppers, pickle and celery salt, is $ 2.50 a pop. ■ Broadway Cafe (3287339) in Eagle hosts Mussel Madness on Saturday nights from 5:30 p.m. to close. Enjoy a pound of steamed mussels in a garlic saffron cream sauce for $7.95. Add a martini for $5. If youre of the latter persuasion, Nozawa Sushi Bar and Asian Kitchen ( 476- 9355) features half- price sushi rolls every day from 4 to 7 p. m. Try the Shredder Roll freshwater eel, crab meat, cream cheese, avocado and masago literally melt in your mouth because the roll is tempura- fried just moments before landing at your table. ■ If youre in the mood for an early dinner, check out happy hour on Larkspurs (479-8050) patio.
