EDWARDS, Colorado – The Battle Mountain High School Dance Team is offering a Junior Dance Camp this Saturday at the school’s gymnasium. Participants will be divided into three age groups to learn dance routines designed specifically for them. The girls will perform alongside the high school dance team under the lights at the Battle Mountain football halftime Oct. 1.

Many of the dance team members remember participating in this dance camp as youngsters themselves.

“I remember how much we looked up to the high school girls and we wanted to be just like them,” says Kayla Strahan, a sophomore and second year dance team member. “It feels really good being on the teaching side. It took me right back to when I was in dance camp and we learned a routine to Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic.'”

Participants will receive eight hours of dance instruction, lunch, dinner and snacks, a dance team t-shirt and two tickets to the football game on Oct. 1. The workshop hours are 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The cost is $90. If you sign up with a friend, the cost is reduced to $80. Advanced sign up is encouraged by calling 376-2640 or sending an e-mail to Day of registration should arrive by 9:30 am.

The workshop is a fundraiser for the dance team to help pay for a trip to Miami, where the girls will be performing live at the Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl hosts the ACC Football Champion against a BCS at large team under the lights on Jan. 3, 2011. The 2010 halftime show featured Grammy-award winning Kool and the Gang.

Mandy Moore, choreographer from “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” will be leading the dance program.

The dance team is also offering a “Dine with the Dancers” fundraiser on Oct. 6 at Balata at the Singletree Golf Club. Reservations can be made by calling Balata at 970-477-5353.
