Vail Valley Drive work begins Monday

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Eagle River Water and Sanitation District is beginning its Vail Valley Drive upgrades to the Vail public water system Monday.

The project includes installation of additional piping, remote water quality analyzers, and upgraded equipment at seven sites throughout Vail and is required to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s new Ground Water Rule regulations.

The east entrance to Vail Valley Drive will be closed through May 13 while new water lines and equipment are installed and connected to the water distribution system. Weather delays pushed the closure, planned for April 25, back by one week.

The portion of Vail Valley Drive between South Frontage Road and Sunburst Drive will be completely closed while water utility work is completed. A detour will route vehicles to the west entrance of Vail Valley Drive, located just east of the Vail Village Parking Structure, and will be in effect 24 hours a day.

The detour will exit just east of the closed area, at the intersection of Vail Valley Drive and Sunburst Drive, near the Vail Golf Course. Barricades will be in place on both sides of the closure to alert drivers and cyclists to use the detour; emergency services have been notified of the two-week closure.

Construction at the various sites will continue through November. For project construction information, call John Cahill, construction manager, at 970-471-5357 or visit the district’s website at
