VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Even if you’ve never played a drum or were told you couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, a Vail Valley program on 5:30 p.m. at the Avon Public Library Sunday will show you how to use drumming for prayer, spiritual communion, and to discover the song inside you.

The program will be presented by author and speaker Christine Stevens, and Alli Swain, a music therapist and wellness drumming facilitator. Drums will be provided for all participants.

“I attended Christine’s drumming workshop last year and knew we had to get up to Vail,” said Sally Peterson, the musical director at Unity of the Mountains. “She is huge blast of sunshine and positive energy,”

Since 2007, Stevens has been part of creating a drum circle program for peace-building in northern Iraq. The program, Ashti Drum or Drum Salam is the first time in history that an international relief organization has sponsored a drum circle program in a war-zone for conflict resolution, youth empowerment, and therapy.

Stevens will also be teaching a healing rhythms retreat at Colorado’s Shambhala Mountain Center on Oct. 9 to Oct. 11. For more information, visit http://www.ubdrumcircles.com or http://www.shambhalamountain.org
