Vail Valley: Eagle man now a certified federal surveyor

Matthew Scott Slagle of Eagle has successfully completed the certification process and exam to become the Vail Valley’s only certified federal surveyor.

Slagle is a licensed professional land surveyor with more than 25 years of land surveying experience and a degree in surveying and mapping. He is a senior project manager for Archibeque Land Consulting, a land surveying firm in Eagle.

There are only 11 certified federal surveyors in Colorado. Slagle is one of three not located on the Front Range – there is one in Gunnison and one in Montrose.

The training program for certified federal surveyors trains professional land surveyors about the unique aspects of land boundary surveys on and near federal lands.

The original government surveys done in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the mountains of Colorado did not contain the same level of precision used today, presenting problems when surveyors try to reconcile original records with current boundaries.
