Vail Valley: Fly Fishing Outfitters wins $50,000 ‘Ultimate Business Makeover"

Strive & Thrive, a non-profit organization created earlier this year to provide guidance and support to Vail Valley businesses Wedmesday announced that Fly Fishing Outfitters of Avon has won an “Ultimate Business Makeover” worth $50,000.Fly Fishing Outfitters is owned and operated by long time local John Packer. The shop is the only Orvis-endorsed dealer in the county.”It was such a hard decision and there were so many qualified candidates, but we felt there were key needs this business has that we could provide and we were impressed with the possibilities for the future of this business”, said Kevin Armitage, a co-founder of Strive & Thrive and a manager at Colorado Business Bank. Strive & Thrive Inc. is a nonprofit organization made up of professionals from six local businesses: Dalby Wendland & Company; Colorado Business Bank; Managed Data; Anderson Marketing Communications and Events; One Resolution; and Human Resources Plus. The group’s mission is to provide resources and guidance to small and medium-sized businesses. “I’m thankful for this opportunity”, Packer after learning he’d won the award. “I bought this business earlier this year and have been moving very quickly. It will be nice to take a step back and make sure I get some important fundamentals in place and it will be great to get some help!”Strive & Thrive co-founder Jason Anderson, a CPA with Dalby Wendland, said, “We are looking forward to working with John and his team and excited about using Fly Fishing Outfitters as a case study for other business to learn by.
