Vail Valley: Gypsum Animal Hospital to host low-cost vaccination clinic
July 6, 2010
Because of recent problems with rabies and distemper viruses in Colorado and the Western Slope, Gypsum Animal Hospital will be holding a “Vaccination Amnesty Day” July 9 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Animal Hospital has agreed to waive the customary $50 examination and office call fee for the day for vaccinations. Rabies and distemper vaccines will cost $20 each.
“There heave been bats with rabies found in the valley, skunks in Denver with rabies and now Raccoons in Glenwood Springs were found with distemper, which is quite a nasty and very contagious disease,” said Dr. Steve Sheldon, hospital director. “We need to do what we can to help assure pets and people are properly protected.
Sheldon said the day looks to be a busy one and the clinic will have extended hours and added additional staff. “We plan to start early, end late and work through lunch,” he said. “Somehow we will fit everyone in who needs vaccinations.” The hospital has already booked appointments for over 40 animals for the day.
For an appointment call 970-524-DOGS (3647). Gyspum Animal Hospital is located off U.S. Highway 6 a few blocks east of Eagle Valley High School.
