Vail Valley: Habitat Home Outlet, RECON join forces

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL VALLEY – The Habitat Home Outlet will take over the reusable building materials operation of RECON from Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability. The partnership allows each nonprofit organization to focus on its greatest strengths within the community, the groups say.

The alliance is a community organization promoting sustainable practices in recycling, energy and renewable power, and green building. Habitat Home Outlet raises funds to build simple, decent homes with families in need. The outlet has a warehouse, and also collects and sells donated items.

“We have always worked well with the alliance and obviously believe in diversion of waste,” said Tom McKay, Habitat Home Outlet director. “We hope to increase the amount of building materials we are keeping from the landfill in Eagle County.”

The merger will kick-off with a huge sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the RECON yard near the Eagle County Landfill.
