Vail Valley: Man of the Cliff coming to Red Cliff

RED CLIFF, Colorado –Man of the Cliff, an outdoor competition, will take place in Red Cliff Oct. 16-18. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit Vail Valley charity First Descents, which provides outdoor adventures for young adults with cancer.

“Think of it as an excuse to get outdoors, throw on your flannel and hang out with your friends,” said Amanda Armour, one of the event’s organizers. “The best part is that it’s all for charity.”

The competition will includes events like a hatchet throw, speed wood chopping, a keg toss, a hammer toss, a caber toss and archery. The competitor with the best scores in the majority of the events will be named the 2009 Man of the Cliff. Though the event is dubbed Man of the Cliff, women are encouraged to participate.

Participants can save $10 by pre-registering for all events at Registration will also be available at Mango’s prior to the start of each event. Spectators will be invited to get into the competitive spirit as well by participating in games throughout the evening like a hula hoop and cornhole competition. Awards will be given out for manliness, including best beard and best flannel.

Local band Dr. Awkward will play live at Mango’s Oct. 17. Those interested in staying in Red Cliff for the weekend can take advantage of $89 room rates at the Green Bridge Inn, located right across the street from Mango’s.
