Vail Valley Medical Center honors Steadman, Millett, Gray with awards
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – Vail Valley Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Doris Kirchner honored the 2011 winners for Physician of the Year, Rising Star and the Clinical Excellence awards awarded to Richard Steadman, Jamie Gray and Peter Millett, respectively. The awards were presented at an annual ceremony recently.
The Physician of the Year award acknowledges the physician’s abilities in leadership, quality patient care, contributions to the community and hospital and the utilization of evidenced-based medicine in daily practice. This year’s award went to Steadman, managing partner and founder of the Steadman Clinic and nonprofit orthopedics research foundation, the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. Steadman moved to Vail in 1990 and throughout his career has developed numerous procedures for knee surgery and rehabilitation that have been adopted by orthopedists worldwide. Steadman has worked with the U.S. Ski Team for decades but prides himself in providing the same level of care to all patients, regardless if they are a weekend warrior or a gold-medal athlete.
“Dr. Steadman has built a career around excellence in patient care, community involvement and continuous learning and teaching,” Kirchner said.
The Rising Star Award is for physicians that embody all of the qualities of Physician of the Year, but have been on staff at Vail Valley Medical Center for five or fewer years. The Clinical Excellence Award is for a physician who has contributed to cutting edge techniques or research.
The Rising Star Award recipient for 2011 is Jamie Gray, vice president of the medical staff at Vail Valley Medical Center and Adult Hospitalist. Gray is a champion of quality improvement and she is committed to taking care of the underserved at Eagle Care Clinic. Gray is passionate about continuing education and the advancement of evidence-based medical practices.
The 2011 Clinical Excellence Award was awarded to Peter Millett, a shoulder and sports medicine specialist, also of The Steadman Clinic. Millett is committed to research and providing the highest level of medical care to his patients. Amongst many other honors, Dr. Millett is ranked in top 1 percent of his specialty by US News and World Reports, is a two-time recipient of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Achievement Award and is consistently on the Best Doctors in America list of the most respected doctors in their specialties.
Nominees and winners of each award are chosen by their peers, physician leadership and hospital administration.
