Minturn Music, formerly Mojo Music, will host an Oct. 9 event to benefit the Vail Valley Salvation Army’s food pantry.

Anyone who brings in three or more cans of food can have a guitar strung with new Fender strings.

The Salvation Army food pantry, crisis line and emergency assistance programs have gone from serving 715 families in 2007 to 1,068 families in 2008. The Food Pantry alone served 249 families in 2007 and more than 400 in 2008. In 2009 the numbers skyrocketed to 2,963 cases (people who came to ask for help), and 1,850 visits to the food pantry.

In the first half of this year, the Salvation Army had 2,239 families requesting assistance, including more than 2,100 coming to the food pantry.

Minturn Music is at 122 Main Street in Minturn. To learn more, call 970-949-7976.
