Vail Valley mountain bike races announced

VAIL, Colorado “-The schedule for the 2009 Vail and Beaver Creek Mountain Bike race series was released Monday. Races start May 27 with the the Hammer in the Hay held at 4 Eagle Ranch near Wolcott, Colorado.

Racers of all ages and experience levels can register now for each race. The schedule is:

May 27: Hammer in the Hay, 4 Eagle Ranch near Wolcott



June 10: Eagle Ranch Classic, Eagle Ranch, 4th of July trailhead

June 17: Berry Creek Bash, U.S. Forest Service road in Edwards



July 8: Vail Grind, Gold Peak base area on Vail Mountain

July 22: Mike Janelle Memorial Race, Davos Dash, Holiday Inn in West Vail

Aug. 5: Beaver Creek Blast, Centennial chairlift at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain



Last year, more than 1,500 racers competed for $5,200 in cash and $30,000 in prizes. The Adventure Ridge Youth Mountain Bike saw a 100 percent increase in participation with over 130 youth racing on many of the same trails as the expert and professional riders.

Individual races cost $25 for pre-registration or $35 on race-day. Racers also can register for the entire race series for $125 by May 24. Teams of up to 15 riders can compete for the overall series title as well.
