Vail Valley musician Heinz to play at Telluride festival
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL – Vail Valley’s musician Kevin Heinz hopes to win it all in the Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition next weekend. Heinz was invited to participate in the competition, which is part of the annual Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, after submitting a demo in mid-August.
The Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Elks Lodge. Heinz and five other competitors will each play two original or blues standard songs, as well as one song chosen by the competition organizers: “Everyday I Have the Blues,” by B.B. King. The artist who wins the competition in the morning will be given a Gibson acoustic guitar and will be invited to play on the Blues and Brews main stage later that afternoon.
“I’m excited and honored to have been invited to participate,” Heinz said. “And, of course, I’m stoked to have a chance to play on the main stage at one of my favorite music festivals.”
Heinz, who has played numerous solo gigs and full band sets with his band Dr. Awkward throughout Colorado, has been working hard on polishing his original songs and his version of Mr. King’s classic.
There’s not much that can compare to playing music live on stage for a crowd, Heinz said.
“It’s a feeling unlike anything else. It’s exhilarating,” Heinz said. “I’m looking forward to playing in Telluride on a new stage in front of people I’ve never met before and who have never heard my music. It’s going to be memorable no matter the outcome.”
