EAGLE COUNTY ” The county’s trails committee is for the second year seeking nominations for a “local commuter of the year” who walks or bikes to work.

Nominations, due by June 16 at 5 p.m., should include information about the commuter’s family. For instance, do they have kids and a full-time job and still have time to commute? Or, are they so committed they automatically choose the bike over the car?

The winner will be selected by the 18-member ECO Trails Committee, which includes several seriously committed bicycle commuters. E-mail or fax a paragraph to Ellie Caryl at ellie.caryl@eaglecounty.us or call 328-3539.

EAGLE COUNTY ” The Eagle County Volunteer Center is participating in Colorado Cares, a statewide awards program that recognizes volunteers in the region for their efforts.

Nominations of individuals families, or groups who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership and civic involvement are encouraged. Categories include: children/youth, seniors, health, community pride, education, good samaritan, environment, volunteers under age 18, and businesses that support volunteering.

The winners each category will be named by a nomination review committee and then submitted to Gov. Bill Owens, who will select the top volunteers across the state from the winners in each county.

The deadline for nominations is June 23 at 5:00 p.m. Local winners will be honored at a reception in the fall by the Eagle County Volunteer Center.
