MINTURN – Long-time Minturn resident Bill Burnett Friday will sign copies his book about Gilman. The book, “The Eagle on Battle Mountain at Gilman, Colorado and My Life as I Remember,” has been reprinted and it details working in the mine, which was a mainstay of the county’s economy for many years. The signing will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at the Minturn Town Hall. The Eagle County Historical Society is selling copies of the book for $15 plus $3 in postage. To order the book, contact Kathy Heicher at 328-7104; or e-mail kheicher@cmnm.org.The Historical Society will also sell books of local history at the Kuttin’ Korner on Broadway during the Christmas on Broadway celebration in Eagle on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

VAIL – The groundbreaking of the Four Seasons Resort Vail, near the corner of Vail Road and East Meadow Drive, will be at 2 p.m. Monday.The event will be at the site of the development, which is just southwest of the main Vail roundabout.A reception will follow from 3-5 p.m. at Restaurant Kelly Liken, across the street from the groundbreaking, at 12 Vail Road.The Four Seasons development will include 120 hotel rooms, 16 private residences and 19 fractional residences.

VAIL – The Vail public library’s “Fireside Family Holiday Party” is Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. in the main room of the library. There will be stories and songs, holiday treats and a visit from Santa.The party is free and children of all ages are welcome when accompanied by an adult. GYPSUM – Nominations for Gypsum’s best holiday-light displays are now being accepted. Winners will be chosen in six parts of town: Eagle River Estates/Willowstone; Old Town west of Second Street; Old Town east of Second Street; Gypsum Estates/ Buckhorn Valley; Red Hill; and Cotton Ranch/ Horse Pasture/ Chatfield Corners.A $100 cash award from Beveridge Real Estate will be presented to the grand prize winner. Other prizes include a $75 energy credit from Holy Cross Energy, and $50 gift certificates from Alpine Bank, Castle Peak Automotive Center, Columbine Market, and Stop ‘N’ Save.Last year there were six winners and 32 displays were given honorable mentions.To submit a nomination, call the town of Gypsum at 524-7514.
