Vail Valley Partnership’s destination is success
What is the Vail Valley Partnership? Its a simple question with a complex answer. Soon to celebrate its 44th birthday, the organization is reinventing and revitalizing itself again. Over the years, weve been the Vail Resort Association, the Vail Valley Chamber of Commerce, Vail Valley Tourism & Convention Bureau and the Vail Valley Chamber & Tourism Bureau. At one time, we were known for special events, information booths and chamber-of-commerce operations. Noble endeavors and assuredly appropriate to the time when the mountain was the premier attraction.Today, great lodges; intimate inns; myriad retail offerings featuring local, national and international brands; stellar restaurants and ever more popular and delicious cuisine crawls abound. Were seeing an increasingly wide range of thrilling outdoor activities and a growing service economy for our residents.Along with the juggernaut of growth come the challenges of work-force housing and labor acquisition. Like many affected by the changes, the Vail Valley Partnership needs to revisit its mission. Our most recent name change to the Vail Valley Partnership sets the stage for that new mission to achieve and maintain a position as the business vitality center for the Vail Valley and our new vision to be a major force in the creation and maintenance of a 365 economy that fosters opportunities for Vail Valley businesses and residents and supports visitor growth, guest-experience satisfaction and lifestyle quality. Its a big job. Our involvement in spearheading service- and lodging-quality programs (the Platinum Service and Lodging Quality Assurance programs), coordination of cultural event promotion (PRIMA; including Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, Vail International Dance and the Vail Jazz Festival), involvement with the Vail Local Marketing District, Golf Vail Valley and intergovernmental organizations like the I-70 Coalition and the Vail Air Alliance, in addition to supporting the business and economic-development needs of our 800 members and the municipalities in which they work and live, now provide the Vail Valley Partnership with a full agenda of important, relevant and fun work. We are passionate about helping the community create a thriving, year-round economy, and while we carry on our traditional activities of destination marketing, group sales, central reservations, VailOnSale.net and much more, we now have the added responsibility of making sure that all our efforts, and those of our partners, associates, employees and allies, move relentlessly toward the goal of destination success. Of course, networking opportunities are another partner benefit we bring to the community. From monthly mixers to dynamic professional development presentations, we offer programs that educate, challenge and motivate. Tonight, were looking forward to celebrating the end of an epic season at the Vail Chophouse with our annual Blue Jeans Lobster Networking Party. Join us at 5 p.m. as we all crack open lobsters and cold beers and dont forget your business cards. As we say around here every day, onward and upward. Join us in our new mission, and become a part of this monumental endeavor.Michael Kurz is president and chief executive officer of the Vail Valley Partnership.
