Vail Valley Rep. Polis singles, gets RBI to beat GOP
Vail, CO Colorado
The Vail Valley’s congressmen, Rep. Jared Polis, joined his fellow Democrats in beating the Republicans, 15-10, in Wednesday night’s 48th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game at Washington’s National Stadium.
The win marks the first victory for the Democratic Team since the Clinton Administration.
Polis entered the game early, hitting a successful sacrifice fly and knocking in a run for the Democrats. The freshman Congressman batted twice, getting a hit in his second at-bat.
Polis, a lifelong Colorado Rockies fan, wore a special #45 Rockies jersey in support of his home team. This season, the Rockies are 32-33, 3rd in the National League West and challenging for a wild card spot.
“What could be better than combining my love of baseball with politics and charity?” said Polis. “Beating the Republicans didn’t hurt, either.”
The seven-inning exhibition game benefits Washington Literacy Council and the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs. Despite a late Republican rally in the seventh inning, the Democrats held onto a lead to ultimately win.
“I want the Rockies to know that I’m always available if they need me-I have some time coming up in August in case they want to give me a call,” Polis said.
Snowplowing efforts are a prime example of how sometimes the very people who need a service hinder its delivery.
