Vail Valley Rotary Clubs begin duck sales for annual race

The Vail Valley’s three Rotary Clubs – in Vail, Edwards and Eagle – have kicked off duck sales for their annual Labor Day duck race on Gore Creek.

This year’s race is set for Sept. 5, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The duck race is one of the club’s main fund-raisers for Rotary projects including a health and wellness program for the valley’s uninsured kids, scholarships and youth leadership training.

This year’s top prizes are $3,000 cash for first place and $2,000 for second place. Other prizes include hotel stays, golf outings and spa and restaurant packages.

Ducks can be purchased on line at You can also buy ducks every Sunday at the Vail Farmer’s Market, or from City Market stores in Vail, Avon and Eagle, as well as Village Market in Edwards. Ducks will also be sold by local sports teams and nonprofit groups, as well as the Beaver Creek Rodeo starting June 17. Ducks are $5 each, but a six-pack is $25 and a flock of 25 ducks is $100.
