Vail Valley Salvation Army has record need for food

Vail Valley Salvation Army has had a record number of visits to our food pantries in 2009.

Eagle County challenged local towns to a food drive for our benefit on May 29.

We would like to thank our county commissioners — Sara Fisher, Peter Runyon and Jon Stavney — who competed with the town of Eagle’s Mary Kerst, Mikel Kerst, Roxie Deane, Scot Hunn, Roman Yavich and Kraige Kinney; town of Vail’s Mayor Dick Cleveland, Mayor Pro-tem Andy Daly, Kim Newbury (with Owen and Lydia) Mark Gordon, Penny Harpe and Code Enforcement Officer Jackie Ogden; town of Red Cliff’s Mayor Ramon Montoya, trustees Dan Wallace, Betty Sandoval, Garrett Skahill, Duane Nelson and Tom Henderson; town of Gypsum’s Pam Shultz, Mayor Steve Carver, Tom Edwards, Mark Silverthorne, Danette Schlegal, and Dawn Ritts; and town of Avon’sMayor Ron Wolfe, Brian Sipes, Kristi Ferraro and Amy Phillips.

Thanks go out also to Moses Gonzales and Dan Smith. This challenge brought in oodles of food for our pantries and helped hugely.

And to our generous community who always comes through time after time, special blessings. We simply could not do what we do without you.
