Vail Valley schools may move to Eagle-Vail

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado ” The Eagle County Board of Education plans to decide soon what to do with the old Battle Mountain High School in Eagle-Vail, Colorado next year once the school relocates to its new campus in Edwards.

The Battle Mountain High School Facility committee recommended that the board move Meadow Mountain Elementary into the old high school, along with Minturn Middle School and Red Sandstone Elementary, for a combined K-8 school.

The committee recommended the old site be turned into the K-8 school because it would be the best use of taxpayer money, would benefit the surrounding communities and would allow for an expanded curriculum that would benefit all of the students. It would also satisfy a state mandate to keep the school a school, since the school district owns the facility.

The school bond money voters approved in 2006 did not include money to upgrade or improve the old high school, so the funding source hasn’t been identified yet.
