Vail Valley schools promote principals from within
Eagle, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado ” Phil Qualman and John Trinca will be the new principals at Battle Mountain High and Eagle Valley Middle, respectively, the school district announced Monday.
Eagle County Schools’ Superintendent Sandra Smyser chose the assistant principals at each school to move into the open principal positions, even though Jason Glass, director of human resources for the school district, said last week that internal candidates weren’t given any special consideration.
The new principals will step into their new roles July 1, and aren’t officially considered hired until the school board’s approval at this Wednesday’s meeting.
Qualman, the assistant principal at Battle Mountain, was a social studies teacher at the school before becoming assistant principal in 2006. He said he’s thrilled about the promotion and wants to focus on the school’s transition to the new facility next fall, as well as closing the achievement gap and promoting respect throughout the school among both teachers and students.
Trinca, Eagle Valley Middle School’s assistant principal, also wants to focus on closing the achievement gap when he takes over as principal July 1. Trinca came to Eagle Valley Middle from Oregon about six months ago and said he’s honored to be promoted so quickly.
“It’s been incredible to be a part of this community,” he said. “It’s something that I think is a good fit for me.”
