Vail Valley shines, sparkles and sings this weekend

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The Vail Valley is putting on its finest patriotic shine this weekend, with celebrations including concerts, parades and, of course, lots and lots of fireworks. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening and where. Our apologies if we’ve missed anything.

It’s BYOB (bring your own bubbles). There’s a bubble blower and prize giveaways. For more information, call 970-827-4164. 1 p.m.: Bike party, Main Street. Children and parents will gather at the U.S. Forest Service Compound at the south end of town. 2 p.m.: Main Street Parade: Forest Service compound to Little Beach Park. All parade entries must check in at the Forest Service Compound no later than 1:00 p.m.. 3 p.m.: Community Party with potluck lunch, live music and kids activities at Little Beach Park. Call 970-390-3177 for potluck sign up or for more information.• Salute to the USA, Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Avon. The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa is again the title sponsor for the 24th anniversary of Salute to the USA in Avon, which will be held in Nottingham Park July 3. The annual Independence Day celebration begins at 5 p.m. with music, food vendors, and a beer garden. A free “Family Zone” will provide carnival games, inflatable jumping toys, face painting, clowns and a special children’s instrument petting zoo presented by the BRAVO! Vail Valley Music Festival. The Family Zone is sponsored by Calvary Chapel. It opens at 5:30 p.m. and continues until the fireworks light the sky at 9:45 p.m. DJ Logic takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. and the evening ends with the annual gigantic fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. The show will be synched with a musical score simulcast on 97.7 KZYR The Zephyr. Everyone’s welcome, but please leave dogs, alcohol, grills and personal fireworks at home. Blankets and warm evening attire are recommended. Stopping on I-70 is against the law and tickets will be given to violators. • Eagle Bike Parade, Eagle. Bicyclists of all ages are welcome to decorate their rides and meet at the Brush Creek Pavilion at 8:15 a.m. The parade leaves for Town Park at 8:30 a.m. Town Park activities include a variety of games. Last time we checked, there was a pie-eating contest. Hikers can ride the lift, then hike the Royal Elk Trail to Beaver Lake for a picnic. • Beano’s Cabin Fourth of July Clam Bake and Barbecue, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.The 18th annual event includes a buffet of seafood and barbecue fare plus a variety of salads and desserts.
