Vail Valley shooting victim charged with false reporting
EAGLE COUNTY – A man who allegedly shot himself has been charged with false reporting, a spokesperson for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.
Michael Maher, a participant in the Eagle County Detention Facility’s work release program, called the jail Friday to report that he had been shot. The charge was filed after Maher gave conflicting stories as to whom had shot him. Police determined Saturday that he shot himself.
A weapons charge may be added later this week pending follow-up investigation into the case, said Shannon Cordingly, of the Sheriff’s Office. She said the deputy working the case would be back in the office on Wednesday, when any additional charges would likely be filed.
