Gifted children may be academic high achievers, under-achievers or they may not achieve at all in school. Some gifted children, called “twice exceptional, have hidden learning disabilities that mask their giftedness, or their giftedness masks their disability, and they require special attention. Gifted and Twice Exceptional students cross all demographics and socio-economic groups. They have unique learning styles and require appropriate teaching that may not normally be included in a regular classroom curriculum. We offer opportunities for parents and teachers to provide a solid foundation for these children. GET programming includes teacher trainings, parent night presentations and student workshops with nationally known experts. Our programs address all aspects of the gifted learner, including social-emotional development, gifted advocacy, appropriate assessment and identification, curriculum delivery and academic content, gifted with learning disabilities (Twice Exceptional), parenting support and more.Where does your funding come from? The United Way of the Eagle River Valley, the Eagle County School District, various local school Parent/Teacher Organizations, private individual donations and door donations at GET events. How many staff members work for you? GET is an all volunteer nonprofit with zero paid staff. We have a small board and a new GET Representative program with volunteer Gifted Advocates at some of our elementary and middle schools in Eagle County. Anyone interested in becoming the GET Rep at their school should contact Betty Neal at firstname.lastname@example.org Anything else you’d like the community to know about the organization?GET recently launched a new Web site as a round-the-clock Gifted and Twice Exceptional resource for parents and educators. We’ve chosen the most helpful and relevant articles for our library and provide a list links to other important Gifted information for parents, teachers and counselors.
