Vail Valley students win music scholarships
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival recently awarded music scholarships to nine students, allowing them to continue their instrumental and vocal studies this summer.
The scholarships are made possible through the efforts of the festival’s volunteer guild. Up to $400 is awarded per student, which will be used for music camp tuition.
Several of the recipients will attend the Suzuki Camp in Beaver Creek, University of Denver, Interlochen, and Rocky Mountain Summer Music Camp.
The scholarship amount varies for each student and is based on the cost of camp tuition, the individual’s instrumental ability, interest to pursue music professionally and individual financial need.
“The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival is committed to providing students with the opportunity to develop and excel in their discipline of music,” said Director of Education, Liz Campbell.
Hannah Grayson, a 10th grader at Eagle Valley High School, was awarded a scholarship to continue her harp studies this summer during Brigham Young University’s Young Musicians’ Summer Festival.
Grayson said her harp career started shortly after a vivid dream her mother had about a young woman playing the harp in a field of wheat. When her mother awoke, she realized that that young woman in the dream represented her daughter.
Grayson said her mom knew that the dream had purpose behind it, but didn’t know of anyone who taught the harp. Days later, Cate Todd, a world-renowned harpist who studied with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan moved into the neighborhood and began teaching Grayson the harp.
“Playing the harp has become a huge blessing in my life. I’d like to think it also blesses the lives of those who listen to my music,” Grayson said. “To play the harp, I have to have patience, discipline, integrity and confidence. Not only do these skills help me as a musician, but they help me with being the best person that I can be.”
