Vail Valley: Taste Friulian white wines

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Avon restaurant and wine bar, vin48, is hosting an Italian focused wine tastings this week. On Wednesday, winemaker Giampolo Venica of Venica and Venica will lead a wine tasting. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the restaurant’s wine bar. Venica and Venica is a family owned winery from the Collio region of Friuli. The family has been producing their site-specific whites for more than 70 years. This region, in the northeast corner of the country, bordering Slovenia, is well known for its crisp, textured whites.

“I think Venica wines from Friuli are some of the most interesting white wines made in Italy,” said Greg Eynon, owner vin48. “These wines are crisp, with great minerality: perfect for the summer.”

Every Wednesday, the restaurant will serve wines from visiting winemakers, importers and industry insiders, paired with chef/owner Charles Hays’ cuisine. All the wines served are available for purchase at discounted prices from Beaver Liquors in Avon.
